What Is This is operated by Nico Melian. The short version: the web tool does not require an account. If you create one, we keep your email and your identification history so you can see it later. We do not track you beyond standard analytics.
Photos you upload: sent to the AI provider for identification and discarded immediately after the response is returned. We do not retain copies, unless you are signed in to an account: then we keep a small thumbnail with the result in your history. You can delete it, or your whole account, at any time.
Account and payments: if you sign in we store your email address. Unlimited subscriptions are processed by Polar (polar.sh), our merchant of record. We never see or store your card details.
Usage analytics: we use Vercel Analytics and Google Analytics to count page views and identify popular categories. These tools collect anonymized data: country, device type, page path, referrer. No personally identifying information is collected by the web tool.
Contact emails: if you email us, we keep that correspondence so we can reply. Nothing more.
No passwords (sign in uses a one-time email code) and no card details. We do not sell or share data with third parties beyond the AI provider needed to fulfill identification requests, the email provider that sends sign-in codes, and Polar for payments.
Analytics tools set cookies to deduplicate visitors. We also set cookies that keep you signed in and remember an active Unlimited subscription; blocking those means you will need to sign in again.
